About Us

Ten ladies met at the first meeting of the Bridgewater Garden Club on June 10, 1929 at the home of Mrs. Arthur Carr on Main Street. Now the club is going into its 79th year with 125 members and two divisions. The daytime meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month at the Senior Center at 1:00 p.m. The evening division meets on the fourth Monday of the month at the Senior Center at 7:30 p.m. Members may go to all meetings and guests are always welcome. Each meeting has different speakers on horticulture, flower arranging, birds and animals, perennial and annual gardening and programs are planned around the members' interests.

On alternate years holiday house tours and garden tours are open to the public. Each May there is a plant sale and each December there is a greens sale. Profit from these events is either used for civic beautification of a garden at Hemlock Drive, the Senior Center grounds or for scholarships. Area High School and College students living in Bridgewater or Raynham, majoring in marine, earth, environmental, agricultural, botany. forestry, conservation, urban planning, horticulture, landscape design, architectural engineering or ecology may apply through the guidance office at B-R High School.

The club gives donations to many area environmental groups and members donate a morning a month to do a horticultural program for the residents at the Life Care Nursing Home in West Bridgewater. Through the Library, a program from the MA Horticultural Society Plantmobile is financed for the children by the Garden Club. Each Christmas a greens program for children in grades kindergarten through grade two and another for children in grade three on up is given at the Library. The children make their own arrangements with material donated and help from the club. Another program of environmental education is given for the children either in spring or summer.

Flowers and plants are provided at the Library for the patrons enjoyment and at Christmas, club members make decorations and the building becomes festive. For information on joining the Bridgewater Garden Club call 508-697-7617.
