Mission Statement
|
The Community Development Office serves as a multi-task
department assisting with the overall development of community growth in an
orderly managed approach to ensure future sustainability of the community. The
department has assembled a wealth of professional assistance since its original
conception in 1997 and has office staff to provide professional assistance in
a variety of areas for the other municipal departments in their long term planning
efforts. Such tasks include:

As a planning division, the Community Development
office deals with issues involving land use, economic development, transportation,
housing, historic preservation and environmental resources. Providing site
plan review and recommendations to the various boards responsible for developmental
permitting, assisting in proactive management of institutional growth
and serving as a liaison for state agencies and a resource office for economic
development.

As an engineering division, the office in
responsible for the development and maintenance of the Town’s Geographic
Information System (GIS). With the assistance of a part-time traffic
engineer, traffic design and counting are services provided through the
department.

As a grant writing arm of the municipal government,
the department assists in the development of potential grant applications
for capital projects, educational and public outreach programs. Successful
grant awards have been obtained in the areas of open space and historic
preservation, public outreach programs, economic development and transportation
grants.

Administratively, the office performs grant
writing, contract development and project management for many of the Town’s
major studies (i.e. Transportation, Master Planning etc.) and projects.

As a liaison to the Community and Bridgewater
State College, the department has worked on joint projects of general public
interest
(Campus Business Day, Bike to Work Day, Business
Symposium)

In the area of communication, the office
prints a quarterly Community Bulletin informing residents and the
general public of items of interest. The office has also developed
special topic brochures on a variety of issues ranging from the
permitting process to a list of community organizations.

Serve as staff to the Planning Board, Board
of Selectmen, Master Plan Study Committee and Traffic Study Committee.
