Mission Statement

The Town of Bridgewater maintains a fully-equipped, protected, staffed and fully operational Emergency Management Department, located in the Academy Building, capable of serving as a command control center and emergency operations center, where public safety officials gather to respond to emergencies and ensure the continuity of government during and after a disaster.

The Emergency Management Department is funded by a grant from the Boston Entergy Corporation.

The Emergency Management Department was initially established and continues to provide support in response to an emergency at the Plymouth Nuclear Power Station.  It is also capable of responding to most emergencies, i.e., a hurricane, winter storm, flood, fire, hazardous material spill, tornado, earthquake, civil unrest, terrorist attack.

The Emergency Management Department, in conjunction with the Town public safety officials, Massachusetts and Federal Emergency Management Agencies:

  1. Plans for and directs the prompt and coordinated response to all forms of threat from natural or technological hazards.

  2. Identifies areas vulnerable to hazards and takes steps to lessen potential damage.

  3. Develops and tests plans to preserve life and property.

  4. Identifies necessary shelters and evacuation procedures.

  5. Educates the public in emergency preparedness, and

  6. Maintains a sophisticated local, state and national warning and communications system.
